LOCK- OUT- TAG- OUT

It is up to the employer to interpret OSHA 1910.147 and other regulations to formulate a policy.  All new Geo. M. Martin Machinery is provided with lockable shut off devices.  If you have an older machine that does not have the appropriate shut off devices, please contact our sales department for more information.

ZERO ENERGY STATE LABELING

The first part of Lock-Out-Tag-Out is bringing your machinery to a Zero Energy State.  The table below includes downloadable documents to help provide this information.  Since the procedure is dependent on the configuration of the machine, you must review the options included on each machine:

INTERMEDIATE ENERGY STATE

The large employers in the corrugated industry have identified two general methods for obtaining an Intermediate Energy State, Three Phase Disconnect (IES-3PD) and Machine Safeguard Key (IES-MSK) .

RETROFIT SOLUTIONS

Intermediate Energy State - Three Phase Disconnect (IES - 3PD)

In the Intermediate Energy State - Three Phase Disconnect (IES-3PD) method, the employee uses a provided lockable device to mechanically create a disconnecting gap on the three phase electrical power lines to all primary sources of motion and power to the machine. Another lockable device is supplied to shut off and release the air pressure to the machine.  These devices should allow convenient operator access, so the operator can shut off power and remove a key required to restore power.

A hardware kit is available for mounting the IES-3PD (part # B-068763-00)

Intermediate Energy State - Machine Safeguard Key (IES - MSK)

In the Intermediate Energy State – Machine Safeguard Key (IES-MSK) method, one or more keyed switches are connected to a Safety Monitor Relay, and a pair of redundant contactors is placed in series with the three phase electrical power lines to all primary sources of motion and power to the machine. An electronic shutoff is also supplied to shut off and release air pressure to the machine when the keyed switch is actuated.  These devices should allow convenient operator access, so the operator can shut off power and remove a key required to restore power.

A hardware kit is available for mounting the IES-MSK (part # B-751418-00)

In both configurations, the employee must follow the instructions on the labeling provided for bringing the machine to Zero Energy State before applying the chosen method of IES.  Power to the Touch Screen and PLC remains on during IES. It is up to the employer to specify which configuration best meets the employer’s policies.
